2009-10-06 - ABB in Vietnam joined with the Embassy of Sweden in Vietnam for a two
day environment and climate match making event, 1-2 October 2009 in Ho Chi Minh City. The aim was to promote existing and initiate new cooperation, partnerships and business relations between Swedish and Vietnamese players in the environmental field.
In Vietnam the impacts of rapid economic expansion and urbanization are becoming evident, and environmental concerns are more pressing than ever. As a result, Vietnam’s policy and regulatory environment is becoming increasingly favorable for green solutions and there is an increasing interest at all levels for energy efficiency and renewable power products, services and investments.

The event was organized to offer environment players and customers in Vietnam the opportunity to meet and discuss business ideas and potential cooperation with relevant Vietnamese and Swedish players. The participants were Swedish and Vietnamese players from the public sector, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector from different environmental technology areas. Some of the most potential partners to ABB are CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) consultants like Tricorona, Vattenfall; financial institutions like Sida, Swedish Export Credit Corp., Nordic Investment Bank; players in Waste, Water and Wastewater treatment like Getinge and ITT Flygt; and other industries such as cement, oil, gas and biofuels.
In the morning session of the first day, ABB presented two solutions in the energy efficiency seminar: Waste Heat Recovery and Building Automation. As soon as the seminar ended, a number of customers approached our two presenters James Mullen, manager of Process Automation division and Giang Hoang, manager of Automation Products division for contact and further inquiry for their investment projects. Customers were then invited to ABB’s discussion table at the networking fair in the afternoon. From this table we were able to track around fifteen to twenty leads for ABB to pursuit. Later on in the afternoon, a series of financing opportunities were presented as an important bridge between solutions suppliers and project developers or owners. The first day event was ended with a cozy buffet dinner for all Swedish and Vietnamese business partners.
The second day was for a more open business exploration opportunity through a visit to an Industrial Park, following with discussions on Vietnam’s economic trends and the business climate.
An interesting part of the seminar was after when, many business partners and customers came to tell us that now they realized ABB is a big player in the environment and energy savings fields and that they were looking to ABB to help them identify opportunities where they could use our energy efficient technologies to optimize their processes.
